08/09/17  A Fordyce Woman And A Thornton Woman Charged With Shoplifting

57 year old Ermalean Fields of Fordyce and 53 year old Beverly Jean Canada of Thornton have been charged with shoplifting, possession of a controlled substance and possession of an instrument of crime. The charges were filed against the two following a shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart in Camden.

Officer Jamario Bush of the Camden police was conducting a security check at Wal-Mart and observed two women carrying bulging purses from the store. Bush reported the two did not have any Wal-Mart bags in their possession leading him to believe the two didn't make any purchases in the store. A check of the video inside the store showed the two women putting large amounts of meat inside their purses. They at first denied it but packages of rib eye steaks, sausage, chopped ham and salami were found on the floorboard of the vehicle they were driving.

A search of Canada's purse revealed an instrument used to smoke crack and a marijuana cigarette. Canada said the pipe was used to smoke marijuana. Fields was arrested for shoplifting. Canada was arrested for shoplifting, possession of a controlled substance and possession of an instrument of crime.

Fields is to appear in court September 20 on the shoplifting charge. Canada is scheduled to appear in court September 20 as well.
