08/03/17 Camden Police Report
On July 25, Camden Police officer Charlotte Elliott stopped a vehicle in the Garden Oaks Shopping Center after observing the vehicle had expired registration. When Elliott made contact with the driver she noticed a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Kenny Dale Womack of Camden had a Styrofoam cup containing a beverage. When asked what was inside the cup, Womack stated he was drinking beer because he was disabled. Womack was advised it was illegal to consume alcohol while on a public street or highway. Womack was arrested and cited for drinking on the highway and given a court date of September 6. The driver of the vehicle Allan Jones was released on traffic citations.
51 year old David LeRoy Gill of Camden on July 25, was cited by Camden Police with driving while intoxicated and driving with no proof of insurance. The citation was issued by Camden police officer Blake Norwood who was dispatched to Dollar General on an accident report. Upon investigation, Norwood discovered that the drivers involved were Aaron Smith and David Gill. Gill had pulled into a parking spot beside Smith and knocked off his driver side mirror. Norwood could smell intoxicants coming from Gill who confessed to drinking four beers throughout the day. Gill agreed to a field sobriety test and after testing it was apparent that Gill was impaired and was taken into custody for DWI and was cited for no proof of insurance. He was given a temporary license and a court date of September 6.
The 239th traffic fatality of the year was recorded in Sebastian County on U.S
Highway 71 at Brooken Hill Drive in Ft. Smith.
According to a preliminary state police report..63 year old Janet Kessler died of
injuries suffered in a crash involving three vehicles. Kessler's 2014 Chevrolet
Cruze..eastbound on Brooken Hill Drive was hit broadside by a southbound
2006 Toyta Tacoma..the light changed and the driver of the Tacoma attempted
to stop..but not in time and struck Kessler's vechile on the drivers side..Kessler's
car then spun into a light pole and then collided with a a north bound 2015
Hyundai Sonota..who was stopped in the northbound turning lane of U.S. 71.
The drivers of the other vehicles not available in the report.
The injured were taken to a Ft. Smith hospital..where Kessler died of her
injuries. Weather conditions were clear..the roadway dry at the time of the
crash at 11:14 Thursday morning. Ft. Smith PD investigated.
