07/31/17 Two Altheimer Residents Dead And Wabbeseka Woman In Serious Condition Following Train Crash

 

A woman seriously injured in a vehicle-train crash Thursday at Wabbeseka in Jefferson County remains hospitalized at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. 25 year old Genesis Dendy was listed in serious condition on Friday.

According to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's office, the crash resulted in the death of 27 year old Shamri Cole-Cox and 28 year old Talisa Cannoon, both of Altheimer. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Dendy, the driver of the vehicle was flown to Little Rock following the crash.

According to the report, a west bound Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Dendy was struck by a southbound Union Pacific train at a crossing in Wabbeseka. The car was dragged over 1,500 feet by the train before stopping at  another crossing. The investigation into the crash continues. It appears Dendy failed to stop while approaching the tracks at a stop sign.
