07/28/17  Bearden Hosting Sanctioned Chuck Wagon Races This Weekend

Tomorrow and Sunday, two big days of Western-era excitement at the Bearden Riding arena, just outside of Bearden. It's the Arkansas Chuck Wagon sanctioned Chuck Wagon races.

According to Harry Clemons Jr. of the Bearden Riding Club, the races will be held each afternoon at 1pm in a field near the arena. Clemons says 30 teams have entered the competition from several neighboring states. Barrel racing will kick off the action in the arena tomorrow night at 8 pm followed by a performance by the Zac Dunlap band. Clemons says there's good reason for sponsoring events like the Chuck Wagon races.

We asked Clemons how the Bearden riding club got its start.

Clemons says teams will be competing from several surrounding states. We asked about how the races are run.

Clemons says the races held at Clinton each year has grown to one of the largest equestrian events in the country.

We asked if the Bearden Riding Club wanted to stage the races every year.

The races will be held tomorrow and Sunday afternoon at 1pm. There will be cowboy church on Sunday...and Clemons says there will be a lot of food available and he encouraged everyone attending to bring a lawn chair.
