07/24/17  Dallas County Fair Coming In September


The dates have been set for the Dallas County Fair. The fair will be held September 6 through 9 at the fairgrounds in Fordyce next to the City Hall Complex.

Activities will kick off at the fair building next to City Hall on September 6 with the set up of booths. Check in and arrangement of exhibits from 1-5:30pm. Livestock begins arriving at 4pm and may be checked in until 8pm. Exhibits will be closed for judging from 9am till 2pm on Thursday September 7, and will be open on Friday from 9-11am for school groups and for the public beginning at noon.

This years fair parade will be held on Saturday, September 9,  beginning at 10am at Beech Grove Baptist church, with parade line up at 9am. A gospel hour will follow at the fair grounds along with the Rotary Club's egg toss at noon.

The annual Sticky Fingers BBQ cook-off will get underway at 6am Saturday morning and go on until early Saturday afternoon when the winners will be announced. The categories are chicken, ribs and brisket. Cash prizes this year total over $3,000.00, with $500.00 for first place, $250.00 for second and $100.00 for third. Entry fee is $100.00 per team. A steak cook off will be held on Friday night.

Saturday features a livestock and horse show starting at 9am followed by the annual premium sale at the fair building. Exhibits will be open Saturday from 9am till 3pm.
