06/26/17  Three Highway Deaths Over Weekend


 A 53 year old Blythevillle, Arkansas man died and two others were injured in a two vehicle crash in Craighead County on Saturday afternoon. According to State Police, a 2005 Nissan driven by 33 year old John Ridge of Lake City, Arkansas was eastbound on highway 18 and a 2004 Buick driven by 53 year old Kenneth Jackson of Blytheville was westbound on 18. Ridge's vehicle crossed the center line into the westbound lane, striking the Jackson vehicle. The injured were all taken to a Memphis, Tennessee hospital where Jackson died of his injuries. Weather conditions were clear, roadway dry at the time of the crash at 2:13 Saturday afternoon. Corporal Scott Irvin of the State Police investigated. It was Arkansas' 227 fatality of the year.

A Henryetta, Oklahoma man was killed and a passenger in his vehicle injured in a two car crash in Boone County on Thursday afternoon. The crash occurred on U.S. 65 north at highway 14 east. The report states that a 2017 Kia driven by Douglas Dean Wilkes of Henryetta, Oklahoma was northbound on U.S. 65. A 2010 Chevy, driver not identified,  was attempting a left hand turn onto state highway 14 and turned into the path of Wilkes vehicle. Wilkes wife, 61 year old Charla was injured and taken to a Springfield, Missouri hospital for treatment of her injuries. Weather conditions were clear, the road dry at the time of the collision at 1:54 Thursday afternoon. State Trooper Paul J. Hutcheson investigated.

A Houston, Texas man died in a one car crash early Friday morning on State Highway 7 in Ouachita county, near the 9 mile marker.  53 year old Clark K Alan of Houston was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Alan, driving a 2008 Volvo, heading south on highway 7, lost control of his vehicle, striking a bridge railing. After impact, Alan was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. It was raining at the time of the crash at 3:20am. Ouachita County Deputy Dustin Vaughn investigated.
