06/21/17  Jack Gresham Dies at 102


Former Fordyce High School Superintendent and Principal has died. 102 year old Jack Harris Gresham died on Monday.

According to his obituary, Gresham lived a remarkable life, not only in length of years, but also in honorable service to his country, and in public education and in devotion to family and friends.

After his father's death, when Gresham was eight years of age, his mother took him to Little Rock to get Babe Ruth's autograph. A highlight of his high school basketball career was playing in the new auditorium at the new Little Rock Central High School. When the U.S. Entered WWII, Jack enlisted as an officer in the Navy.

After the war he returned to Thornton where he was recruited to be Fordyce High School Principal. There he began his 31 year tenure with Fordyce School District including 28 years as Superintendent of Schools. He served 12 years on the Executive Committee of the Arkansas Activities Association..including one year as president. He played golf until the age of 92.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday at 2pm at First United Methodist Church in Fordyce. Visitation tomorrow evening from 6-8pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce, in charge of arrangements.
