06/19/17  Another Deadly Weekend On Arkansas Highways

 

Two more traffic fatalities were recorded in Arkansas over the weekend. Saturday night in Pulaski County, a pedestrian was killed attempting to cross  highway 67. According to a State Police report, 54 year old Charles Sheppard of Vilonia died when struck by a northbound vehicle. Sheppard was crossing the highway from west to east when he was struck by a 2004 Dodge Stratus. The driver of the car was not identified in the report. The weather was clear, roadway dry at the time of the incident at 9:05 Saturday night. Corporal Louis Keller of the State Police investigated.

A 51 year old Monticello man died in a two vehicle crash on Saturday in Chicot County. State police reported Mark W. Hopper of Monticello died when he failed to yield to another vehicle. The report states that Hopper's 2006 Honda Shadow was traveling west on highway 159, attempting to turn onto highway 65-north. A 2009 Honda Accord was headed north on 65 nearing the 159 intersection, Hopper failed to yield and struck the Accord. The driver of the Accord was not identified in the report. Hopper died at the scene. Weather conditions were cloudy, the roadway dry at the time of the crash, at 8:50 Saturday night. State trooper Bryson Schultz investigated. The deaths brought Arkansas' death toll for the year to 215.
