06/14/17 Granny's House Back In Discussion At Fordyce City Council |
The Fordyce City Council last night took a positive step in getting the ball rolling on the clean up of the old nursing home property known as “Granny's House”. After discussion, the council agreed to have Mayor John MacNichol talk to Dallas County Judge Jimmy Jones about getting the property cleaned up. The proposal to the Judge will be a 50-50 split on the $25,000.00 cost of cleaning up the asbestos in the old building. The matter has been wrestled with by city and county officials for about three years. In other city council action last night, councilman Don Parrson proposed that panic buttons be installed in the various city departments and security cameras put up. Parrson said the action is particularly necessary following an incident at the water department. The so called “panic buttons” would enable anyone in a city office to push the button which would be a direct line to the police department and an indication that police assistance was needed in that office. Mayor MacNichol agreed that such action is needed and would follow up on the proposal. Mayor MacNichol said the papers have been signed on the purchase of the old concrete property for housing the street department and the mayor asked the council to study the proposal for a new telephone system for the city so that action on the proposal can be taken at the next meeting.
