06/07/17  Dallas County Sheriff's Report

 

Around 8am on June 5, Dallas County investigator Keith Axsom received a call that an inmate had escaped from custody. Axsom states in his report at around 7:25 on Monday morning, inmate James Hall was released into the custody of Steve Queen to do work in the county. Queen is a county employee. Queen stated he dropped Hall off at the Office of Emergency Management to do some mowing and when Queen went around the building, Hall took off. Axsom and Sheriff Stan McGahee started searching for Hall and got a tip from a citizen who said Hall was spotted running between some houses on Oak and 6th Street. Hall ran out of some woods behind Axsom's car, a foot chase ensued and shortly Axsom had Hall back in custody. Hall was taken back to the Dallas County Jail.

23 year old Mark Allen Lambert of Fordyce was arrested and charged with theft by receiving, following an incident on June 1. The Dallas County Sheriff's office got a call from Bob Myers who reported someone ringing his doorbell and a truck stuck in the ditch on highway 8 west, about a mile and a half from the 79-highway 8 intersection. Upon investigation, deputy Billy Rogers saw Lambert's truck in the ditch on the east side of the road with skid marks across the highway and tire marks in the ditch on the west side of the highway. After talking with Lambert and getting a different story from the facts he observed, Lambert advised Rogers he had a gun behind the drivers seat. After getting permission to search the vehicle, Rogers found a heritage 22 caliber pistol still in the box. A check was made on the pistol and it was reported stolen.

May 27, Deputy Jim Johnson was dispatched to a deer camp at the Old Freer packing plant on highway 167 in Ivan in reference to a trailer that had been broken into. Silas Taylor of Hensley, the owner of the trailer showed Johnson the damage that had been done to the trailer. A custom tow hitch had been removed and was laying on the ground. No property was missing from the trailer. Taylor indicated he'd been to the deer camp a couple days earlier and there was no damage at that time.

May 29, Brandon Vann of Sparkman reported to the Dallas County Sheriff's office that a number of items had been stolen out of his truck while his truck was parked at the Sparkman boat ramp on the Ouachita River. Vann stated when he returned to the boat dock after fishing, he noticed the spare tire missing from the bed of his truck and a number of other items missing. Vann identified some individuals and some trucks that were parked at the dock when he launched his boat to fish. Those individuals are being checked out as the investigation into the incident continues.

May 14, Jason Hill of Benton reported to the Dallas county Sheriff's office that his four wheeler had been stolen from his deer camp on highway 9. The incident is under investigation at this time.

We reported in May, that Edward Seale of Sparkman reported on May 12, that his wife's car had been stolen. A neighbor down the street identified two individuals they had seen load things into the vehicle and drive away. Later that day Seale called the Dallas County Sheriff's office to report that the vehicle had run out of gas in Gum Springs near the interstate. According to a report by investigator Keith Axsom, when the car was recovered it had been spray painted and sanded on the hood to change the appearance. The vehicle was brought back to Dallas county. Warrants were issued for suspects in the case.
