05/10/17 Camden Man Charged With Stealing 30-Pack From Wal-Mart

A Camden man has been charged with theft by receiving and public intoxication. According to a report from Sgt. Jimmy Plyler, he pulled onto the Camden Wal-Mart parking lot to conduct a security check and was met at the front door by the night manager who stated a black male wearing a white t-shirt had just walked out of the store with a 30 pack of beer.

The subject, identified as Frederick Gilmore could be seen walking up the hill to Highland Drive. Gilmore was immediately taken into custody for theft. Sgt. Plyler could smell the strong odor of intoxicants on Gilmore and asked him if he'd been drinking. Gilmore said no, he had been sipping. A bottle of liquor, 90% gone, was found in his back pocket.

Gilmore was taken back to the store and he was identified by the manager as the person who took the beer. When asked if he'd purchased the beer Gilmore said yes but he misplaced his receipt and stated someone just handed him the 30 pack and said ”have a nice day.”

Gilmore's court date is June 21.
