03/10/17  Camden Man Faces DWI Charges Following Accident

42 year old Michael Wayne Lay of Camden faces DWI charges, failure to maintain control of his vehicle, driving a suspended license, failure to pay registration and no proof of insurance.

The charges came following an incident on March 5,  when Sgt. Larhonda Moore was dispatched to the area of U.S. Highway 278 at Bradley Ferry Road on a report of a reckless driver.

The report indicated a truck traveling at a high rate of speed was coming into town.  In route to the location Moore saw a white truck lodged head-on into a light pole at State highway 7 and Holloway Street. The truck had traveled up the hill and across the grass of Greater St. Paul Church.

Moore asked for EMS and made contact with Lay who admitted he had drank a lot of alcohol. He was transported to the hospital and was uncooperative when Moore began asking questions. Following an examination Lay was taken into custody and transported to the police station and charged. He'll appear in court May 3.
