02/22/17  Fordyce One Of Only 6 Arkansas Cities To Have Smithsonian Display

This years' Fordyce on the Cotton Belt festival is scheduled for April 18 thru 25. On a KQ-102.3 "South Arkansas Today"  broadcast, Joe Bill Meador introduced the new chairman of the event, Mike Trammel.

The event this year will have a special parade marshal, Carol Harsch, director of Smithsonian Institute's “Museum on Main Street”. Agnes Phillips, Dallas County Museum director says Fordyce is one of only a few towns in Arkansas that will have the “Museum on Main Street” display. She explained how this all came about.

The ribbon cutting for the “Museum on Main Street” display at the Dallas County Museum will be the last day of the Fordyce on the Cotton Belt, Saturday April 22. Museum on Main Street is a 6 kiosk display developed by the Smithsonian Institution especially for rural audiences and small museums without access to traveling exhibitions due to space and cost limitations.
