02/20/17  52 People dead On Arkansas Highways

 

So far this year 52 people have died in highway traffic crashes in Arkansas. On Friday a double fatality in Crawford county, on highway 59 north, a mile south of the Washington County Line. According to a State Police, a 2001 Chevrolet driven by 61 year old Daniel G. Jones of Lincoln was southbound on 59, a 2013 Chevy, driven by 62 year old Terry Parsons of Lampe, Missouri was headed north, Jones crossed the centerline and struck Parsons head-on killing both drivers at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Weather conditions were clear, the roadway dry at the time of the crash Friday night about 7:45. State Trooper Cort D. Williams investigated the crash.

Friday afternoon in Monroe county a one vehicle crash killed a Brinkley, Arkansas man. According to the State Police report, a 2016 Toyota Tacoma, headed north of U.S. Highway 49, north of Brinkley, driven by 66 year old Barney E. Watts of Brinkley, struck a ditch and a power pole after crossing both lanes of traffic. Watts was alone at the time of the crash and died at the scene. State Trooper first class Kurt Ziegenhorn investigated. Watts death was the 51st fatality of the year on Arkansas roadways.

Saturday. a 1997 Ford, driven by 44 year old Brandon M. Crow of Dardanelle, was southbound on Highway 7 when it left the road, struck a culvert and overturned. Crow was pronounced dead at a Dardanelle Hospital by Yell County Coroner Donna Wells. The weather conditions were clear, roadway dry at the time of the crash at 1:19 Saturday morning. State Trooper Seth C. Race investigated the crash. Crow's death was number 52 on Arkansas roadways since the beginning of the year.
