78 year old L.D. Becton III of Hampton passed away Tuesday at UAMS in Little Rock after a hard fought battle with leukemia. He was awarded the prestigious John H. Hinman Forest Research Fellowship from Yale University where he earned a master's degree in Forestry.

He worked for International Paper for many years and also ran his own timber business, Becton Timber Company. He was a school board member for 25 years.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 at Hampton First Baptist Church with Reverend Clint Richie and Reverend Charles Stover officiating. Burial at Campground Cemetery. Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce in charge of arrangements.
