02/14/17  All Dogs In Rison Must Be Registered

The Rison City Council last week approved a new ordinance requiring all dog owners within the city limits to register their pets for $5.00 and pay fines ranging from $25.00 to $500.00 if that animal is found running loose within the city limits.

The new ordinance passed on a 5-0 vote. One council member was not present. The ordinance takes effect immediately.

Rison Mayor Vernon Dollar said the city of Rison does not have the money to support a dog catcher or dog pound and has therefore resorted to other measures to control loose dogs.
