02/06/17  Arkansas Highways Claim Two Over Weekend

 

To date, 36 people have lost their lives on Arkansas roadways since the beginning of 2017. A 68 year old Springdale man died in a two car crash on Friday evening in Washington county.

According to state police, a 2005 Jeep Liberty was headed south on highway 71-B in the center turn lane, a 1997 Honda MC driven by Theodore R. Stiles of Springdale was northbound in the inside lane of traffic. The driver of the Jeep tried to make a left turn onto Black Oak Ave in Springdale and struck Stiles. The unidentified driver of the Jeep was not injured. Stiles died at the Washington Regional Medical Center.

The weather was clear, the roadway dry at the time of the collision at 6:34 Friday evening. The crash was investigated by Springdale Police. Stiles' death was Arkansas 35 traffic fatality of the year.

One person was killed in a fiery two vehicle crash in Madison County on Saturday. According to the report, the crash occurred on highway 23 north of the Franklin County line. A south bound 2009 Chevy, driven by 30 year old Richard Keck of St. Paul,  Arkansas crossed the center line and struck a north bound 2008 Ford F650 driven by 32 year old Daniel McGuire of Combs, Arkansas.

After leaving the west side of the road, Keck's vehicle caught fire and Keck was pronounced dead at the scene. McGuire was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment. His condition was unknown at the time of the report.

Weather conditions were clear, roadway dry at the time of the crash at 11:32 Saturday night. Corporal Jeff Ricketts of the State Police investigated.
