12/07/16   Camden Police Report

 

November 29, Camden police officer Sharlotte Elliott was dispatched to 2769 Mt. Holly Road in response to a burglary report. Kathy Harrell met officer Elliott and showed her damage to the front door where it appeared someone had forced their way inside by kicking the door in.

Inside the building, a business called Shabby Chic,  nothing seemed to be disturbed. Harrell said she discovered the break in when she arrived for work around 8 in the morning. Officer Elliott told Harrell a report would be on file at the police station with criminal trespass charges. The culprit is unknown at this time.

November 30, Camden police officer Benjamin Opelt was dispatched to the 500 block of Ft. Lookout in reference to a fight involving two males. Upon investigation Opelt came in contact with Demond Sledge who reported the incident. Demond's brother James cursed the officer and resisted being restrained from leaving the scene. Two other officers assisted Opelt and they took James into custody. Officers could smell the odor of intoxicants. James was booked for Public Intoxication and refusal to submit to arrest. He's to appear in Camden district court January 18

December 1, Camden officer Justin Harper was patrolling an area of Van Buren Street and Adams and observed a driver, identified as 34 year old Carolyn Miller run a red stop light while accelerating north on Adams Avenue. Miller ignored Harper's attempts to pull her over until she reached 231 Peal Street.

Miller and a passenger in the car, Bernard Johnson were asked to  exit the vehicle. Miller was observed to have blood shot eyes and had the strong odor of intoxicants about her. She could hardly stand and her speech was slurred. Following a sobriety check, Miller's Blood Alcohol level was point 21.

She was issued a DWI citation, a citation for disregarding a traffic signal and failure to stop for an emergency vehicle. Her court date is January 18, in district court in Camden. Johnson was released from custody with no charges.
