11/23/16   A Heber Springs Republican Vows To Run For Land Commisioner

A Heber Springs Republican is the first person to announce a run for state land commissioner in 2018. Tommy Land told the Ark Demo-Gazette he had never held elected office but serves as chairman of the 1st Congressional District for the state Republican Party.

The 61 year old Land opened Heber Springs Communications, which installs and maintains telephone equipment, after working for Southwestern Bell for 30 years. The current Land Commissioner, John Thurston, plans to seek the office of secretary of state. Thurston is term limited, as is the current secretary of state Mark Martin.
