96 year old Alma Jean Ratliff Tiner of Pine Bluff died Friday. Mrs. Tiner was a resident of Pine Bluff from 1942 until the time of her death.

In 1942, during World War II, Mrs. Tiner was the first married woman to be hired at a toll operator at the Pine Bluff office of Southwestern Bell. She taught 1st and 2nd grade classes at Humphrey, White Hall and Pine Bluff schools for a combined 27 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Jefferson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary from 1962 to 2015, serving on the board and being named Volunteer of the Year in 2003. She was awarded Outstanding Elementary Teacher in America in 1972 and Delta Kappa Gamma woman of the year in 1990.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 until time of service at 11am at First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. Reverend Kenneth Thornton officiating. Burial at Graceland Cemetery. Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors of Pine Bluff in charge of arrangements.
