10/24/16   Former Ouachita County Sheriff Dies At 85

A former Ouachita County Sheriff has died. 85 year old Junius Beverly “Jack” Dews Jr. died Thursday following a battle with cancer.

Dews entered the Naval Reserve in 1948 and remained until 1957. He then served with the Camden Police Department for 20 years retiring as a lieutenant. He entered public office when he ran for sheriff of Ouachita County, winning that election and serving as sheriff for 8 years.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 11 at First Assembly of God Church in Camden with Reverend Greg Sanders officiating. Visitation is this evening from 5-6:30 at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden.
