09/26/16   Cleveland County Sheriff Announces Times For Public Meetings On New Jail

Cleveland County Sheriff Jack Rodgers has announced the time and places for public meetings in Cleveland County to discuss the need for a new jail in the county. Tonight at 6:30, Rodgers will be at the Kingsland City Hall to discussing the jail proposal.

Rodgers has scheduled a meeting at Woodlawn on October 4 at the Woodlawn Community Center.

October 10, Sheriff Rodgers will meet with New Edinburg residents at the New Edinburg Community Center.

October 17, the sheriff will meet with residents in the Rye community at 6:30 at the Rye Fire Department.

Two proposed sales tax measures will be placed on the November ballot to support construction and maintenance of a new county jail. According to a jail inspection report, the most pressing issue for the current jail is the lack of jailers. Dispatchers were being used as jailers too, however the state will no longer allow that person to serve both functions.

Rodgers says the county will have to hire four jailers to provide around-the-clock supervision at the jail.
