09/12/16   South Arkansas Highways Turned Deadly Last Weekend

 

State Police investigated a pair of fatality traffic accidents in South Arkansas this past week. A 64 year old Bentonville, Arkansas woman died in a crash involving three vehicles. Cindy Lea McCurry of Bentonville was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The State Police report indicates that a 2015 GMC Acadia driven by McCurry and a 2015 GMC Sierra, driver not identified, were both northbound on U.S. Highway 65 nearing Chicot Junction in Chicot County, when a  southbound 2004 Freightliner, driven by 51 year old Warren Johnson of Eudora, struck McCurry's vehicle in the northbound lane. After impact, the truck then struck the second northbound vehicle. The injured were taken to Chicot Memorial Hospital.

It was raining at the time of the crash and the roadway wet at 4:10pm on Thursday afternoon. The crash was investigated by State Trooper Grant Evans.

The 2nd fatality crash investigated by the State Police occurred in Drew County on U.S. Highway 425 south in Monticello. 85 year old Meredith J. Bone of Monticello died of her injuries in the crash. The report indicates that Bone was driving a 2008 Lincoln Town Car, headed south on 425, another vehicle, a 2007 Volvo truck, driver unknown, was headed north. The report states that Bone failed to yield to the second vehicle who was turning left.

The injured were taken to Drew Memorial Hospital for treatment. The weather was clear, the road conditions dry at the time of the crash on Friday afternoon at 4pm. Patrolman Larry Smith of the Monticello Police Department investigated the crash.
