08/15/16   Holmes Obit

A man well known in Jefferson and Cleveland County and throughout the state has died. Major Joe “Buddy” Holmes of Pine Bluff died at his home on Friday. He was 90.

Joe graduated from Rison High School in 1944 and volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific. He served as prosecuting attorney for the 11^th Judicial District from 1965 through 1974. After practicing law for 37 years Holmes retired. He and his wife of 64 years, Claire traveled extensively. He was very active in his community and church.

Memorial services will be held this afternoon at 3 at 1^st United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. Memorials may be sent to 1^st United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. Fuller-Hale-South Funeral Home of Pine Bluff in charge of arrangements.
