08/10/16   Bearden City Council Votes To Apply For 2 Grants That Affect City Park

The Bearden City Council Monday night passed a couple of resolutions having to do with recreational facilities at city park. The council passed a resolution to apply for a Trails for Life walking trails grant from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, on a motion by councilwoman Paula Bounds.

The resolution passed unanimously.

The council also passed a resolution to apply for a Fun Park Grant that would be for play ground equipment at city park. It would be the city's obligation to maintain the park for a 25 year period.

Denise Link had a short report on the depot library-museum project.

City recorder-clerk Ginger Bailey was the acting mayor for the Monday night meeting and reminded the council of the importance of the council's next meeting on September 12.

Bailey says there's lots of paperwork to review by the council before the next meeting.

At the conclusion of Monday night's council meeting, we asked City Attorney Tom Wynne about his research on the question of electing a city marshal or the council appointing a chief of police..

The matter was not brought up at the council meeting Monday night. A notice was posted at the city council meeting room at the podium that the next Bearden District Court session will not be until September 15.  Judge Dan Ives was not able to preside over the August 18 court session due to health reasons.
