08/09/16   Bearden Council Says No To Burning In City Limits Without Permit

The Bearden City council at its regular meeting last night passed an open burning ordinance. Anyone wanting to burn within the city limits must first obtain a permit from City Hall. The council did not pass the ordinance on a unanimous decision, however, Aldermen Ronnie Quarles and Bobby Steelman voted against the proposal, the other four aldermen voted in favor. We asked Steelman why he voted against it.

The ordinance did pass with an emergency clause which means the ordinance takes effect immediately. No one seemed to know when the burning permits would be available.

On another issue, Bearden Fire Chief A W Evans announced that anyone living in Ouachita county can get a free fire detector.

the detectors will be available in Bearden at City Hall and the Fire Station.
