07/26/16   Free Tax Weekend Begins August 6

Good news for parents getting their children dressed and supplied for back to school, the sales tax free weekend is coming up August 6 and 7. This year's sales tax holiday will begin at midnight Saturday, August 6 and end on Sunday at midnight August 7.  Currently, the sales tax is 6.5 percent, city and local taxes vary.

During the tax holiday period, retailers will not be allowed to collect sales tax on clothing and footwear if the sales price is less than $100.00 per item, clothing accessories and equipment if the sales prices are less than $50.00 dollars per item. Also included are school supplies, school or art supplies and school instructional material.

The General Assembly passed Act 757 of 2011, providing a sales tax holiday the first weekend in August. The holiday means state and local taxes are not collected or paid on purchases of certain items. For more information, call 501-682-7104.
