07/18/16   Train Kills Mother And 4 Children

A 39 year old Dermott mother and four children were killed when their 1997 Ford Econoline Van was struck by a train. A State Police report identifies the dead woman as Beverly Cater of Dermott. She and three children died at the scene of the crash, a fourth child died at a Jackson, Mississippi hospital.

According to the report, the crash occurred at 6:10pm on Friday night on Old Masonville Road, north of Dermot. The report indicates that Cater failed to yield at the rail crossing and the train struck the van. State Trooper Grant Evans investigated the crash. Weather conditions were clear and the road conditions dry when the crash occurred Friday evening.
