06/29/16   One Driver Flees After Near Head On collision In Ouachita County

Ouachita County Sheriff's deputies investigated a two car crash that occurred Sunday evening at the intersection of Highway 278-west and Highway 376 north. Although the collision was almost head-on, there were no reported injuries.

The investigating officer, Deputy Anthony Nicholson said he observed two badly damaged vehicles when he arrived at the scene. A 1987 Chevrolet car and and a Ford F150 pulling a trailer with a golf cart on it.

The driver of the truck, Houston Bradshaw told Nicholson he was travelling east on highway 278 and was approaching a blind curve at the 278 and highway 376 intersection. He said as he approached the intersection he saw the Chevy traveling west in the eastbound lane of 278. Houston said the car was headed head on toward his vehicle. He said when he veered into the west bound lane to avoid collision, so did the driver of the other vehicle. The other vehicle collided with the passenger side of the truck. After the collision the driver of the car, identified by Houston as Ronald Mcleland ran into the woods. A witness to the accident said Mcleland passed him on a double yellow line at a high rate of speed. An open can of beer was found in Mcleland's vehicle.

At the time of the report, the Sheriff's department hadn't been able to contact Mcleland.
