06/16/16   Pine Bluff Soldier Dies At Fort Chaffee

The Arkansas National Guard says a Pine Bluff soldier has died while training at Fort Chaffee. The guard said in a statement that 32 year old Spc. Sylvester B. Cline of Pine Bluff died Tuesday night at a Ft. Smith hospital. Cline's cause of death is under investigation but the guard said it wasn't caused by a weapon or vehicle accident.

Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Joel Lynch says Cline had served in combat in Iraq in 2008 and was awarded the Iraq Campaign metal and a Global War on Terror  service metal. Lynch said more information will be released later about the death. Cline was assigned to Company A, 39^th Brigade Support Battalion of the 39^th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

He worked as a maintenance worker in Pine Bluff and leaves behind four children.

About 1300 soldiers from the 39^th Infantry Brigade are at Ft. Chaffee for their annual training.
