06/16/16   Pine Bluff Soldier Dies At Fort Chaffee

The Arkansas National Guard says a Pine Bluff soldier has died while training at Fort Chaffee. The guard said in a statement that 32 year old Spc. Sylvester B. Cline of Pine Bluff died Tuesday night at a Ft. Smith hospital. Cline's cause of death is under investigation but the guard said it wasn't caused by a weapon or vehicle accident.

Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Joel Lynch says Cline had served in combat in Iraq in 2008 and was awarded the Iraq Campaign metal and a Global War on Terror  service metal. Lynch said more information will be released later about the death. Cline was assigned to Company A, 39th Brigade Support Battalion of the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

He worked as a maintenance worker in Pine Bluff and leaves behind four children.

About 1300 soldiers from the 39th Infantry Brigade are at Ft. Chaffee for their annual training.
