06/10/16   Jefferson County Plane Crash Update

 

A Polk County man died Wednesday when the aircraft he was piloting crashed  in a wooded area of rural southwest Jefferson County near the Grant County line.

According to State Police spokesman Bill Sadler, State Troopers responded to a call of a downed aircraft at approximately 5pm. The initial report indicated the aircraft was a small single-engine plane.

66 year old Phillip Sloan of Mena was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the aircraft, 19 year old Ross Goodner of Boles in Scott County was injured in the crash and transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center by ambulance where he was admitted in stable condition.

Sadler said State Police secured the crash scene, located inside a clear-cut area of the timberland. The FAA will coordinate the investigation to determine the manner and cause of the crash.
