05/26/16   Cleveland County To Get New Voting Machines

Cleveland County is one of only five counties from across the state to receive a grant from the Arkansas Secretary of State's office for the purchase of new state of the art election equipment that'll replace the county's aging election devices.

The county received $251,900.00 in grant money to buy the equipment. Other counties receiving grant money included Chicot, Jackson, Randolph and Washington. Boone, Columbia, Garland and Sebastian counties previously received the new equipment.

According to spokesman Chris Powell, most voting equipment in the state is about 10 years old and in need of an upgrade. The new equipment allows for a more streamlined system that should shorten wait times for voters and speed up tabulations at the end of the night.
