05/16/16   Two People Die In Separate Accidents Thursday And Friday

 

Thursday A Canadian resident was killed on Thursday, May 12 in Hempstead County in the westbound lane of I-30 at mile marker 29.7. A State Police report indicated a 2016 International truck, driven by 63 year old Myrtis Easter Jr. of Little Rock was westbound on I-30. A 2007 Volvo, driven by 51 year old Melenta Zekanovic of Ontario, Canada was parked on the right shoulder of the interstate and Zekanovic was standing between the drivers side door and the fog line. The truck traveled onto the right shoulder of the road and struck Kekanovic. Kekanovic was pronounced dead at the scene. Easter was not injured. Weather conditions were clear, road conditions dry at the time of the crash at 5:36pm on Thursday. The crash was investigated by State Trooper Darren  Henley.

Friday, State police were called to investigate another fatal accident, this one in Faulkner County. According to a State Police report, a Ford 350 driven by Michael Phillips of North Little Rock, west bound on I-40 at mile marker 121, crossed the median and entered into the east bound lane of traffic, colliding head-on with a 2013 Toyota Highlander driven by 43 year old Andrea Epperson of Little Rock. Epperson was killed when her vehicle went airborne and collided with an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe driver unknown, and A 2011 Chevrolet Camaro driven by 44 year old Carol Betts of Neosho, Missouri. The ford 350 continued west in the eastbound lane and collided with a 5th vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 54 year old Travis Miller of Rison. Phillips, Betts, and Miller were all taken to Conway and Little Rock Hospitals for treatment. The weather was clear..the roadway dry at the time of the crash at 6:15pm Saturday evening. State Trooper John Howington investigated the crash. The fatalities were 162 and 163 of the year on the state's highways.
