04/07/16   Bearden Man My Be Charged As Habitual Offender

A Bearden man has had more drug charges filed against him in Circuit Court in Camden by Deputy prosecuting attorney R. Jeffrey Sawyer. The charges were filed against 25 year old Clay Vaughn of Bearden.

The information filed state that on March 7 of this year, Vaughn was stopped by Camden Police on an expired registration charge. The vehicle Vaughn was driving was searched and during the search police found a black duffle bag that contained a 380 hand gun wrapped up in tape. The police also discovered a baggie containing a substance believed to be meth, and they also found another hand gun and some Xanax. The 380 handgun turned out to be stolen from Mobile, Alabama.

Vaughn became upset and starting kicking the windows of the squad car. A record check revealed Vaughn had two convictions for delivery of a controlled substance back in 2015 and received a 60 month sentence.

Sawyer says he'll seek to have Vaughn tried as a habitual offender which allows the judge to hand out tougher sentences.
