02/18/16   Attorney General Rutledge Addresses Victims Rights

Cards for domestic violence victims detailing their rights and providing information about shelters are now being distributed across the state under a new state law. Attorney General Leslie Rutledge yesterday unveiled the cards that law  enforcement officers are required to provide to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The cards were the centerpiece of “Laura's Law”, named after three women affected by domestic violence. The “Laura's Law” card includes 24-hour crisis line phone numbers, a place for law enforcement and local shelters to provide contact information, a list of victim's rights and information about the Crime Victims Reparations Board.

A spokesman said Rutledge's office is printing and distributing about  30 thousand of the cards around the state. Rutledge made a stop in Fordyce recently and talked with Jesse Kelly on KQ-102.3's "South Arkansas Today" about her mobile office program. She said it will be back in Fordyce this fall.
