02/10/16   Bearden City Fathers Vote To Raise Sewer And Water Rates

The Bearden City Council Monday night passed an ordinance establishing new sewer and water rates for the city to help pay for sewer improvements in the city. According to Andy Franks of A.L. Franks Engineering of Texarkana, the company contracted to do the sewer improvements, the new sewer and water rates were established by the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.

City councilman Bobby Steelman said the rates are substantially higher but the city has no choice.

The first phase of the sewer project has been completed. It's estimated the entire project will take approximately 4 years. Another project that Franks will be handling for the City of Bearden is cleaning up the water towers.

The large tower behind City Hall will be taken out of service.
