01/18/16   Two Traffic Fatalities Over The Weekend

 

A 53 year old Foreman, Arkansas man was killed on Friday in Miller county as he walked into oncoming traffic on highway 71 north near state highway 296. A preliminary report filed by Texarkana Police, identified the dead man as Jimmy Wayne Kent of Forman. Kent was struck by a north bound vehicle as he walked into the path of the vehicle. Kent was pronounced dead at the scene. Weather conditions were clear the road dry at the time of the  accident on Friday evening at about 6pm.

Early Friday morning in Garland County, a 63 year old Royal man was killed in a three vehicle crash on 270, west of Hot Springs. According to a preliminary state police report, a 2004 Dodge, driven by 30 year old Vickey Green of Hot Springs was west bound on highway 270, and a 2009 Hyundai, driven by Willima C. Johnson of Royal, and a 2015 Buick, driven by 71 year old Arvin L. Williams of Benton,  were traveling east on 270.

Dean turned left and struck Johnson's vehicle head on, then Williams vehicle struck the rear of Johnson's vehicle. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley. Johnson't body was sent to the State Crime lab. The injured were taken to St. Vincent's in Hot Springs. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

It was drizzling rain at the time of the crash and the roadway was wet at 5am Friday morning. The crash was investigated by Corporal James Avant of the State Police.
