12/31/15   Major Flooding Alert Along The Arkansas River

 

Forecasters warn of major flooding along the Arkansas River in central and western Arkansas because of the recent heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service says major flooding is expected in Dardenelle, Morrilton and Pine Bluff, along with the communities of Toad Suck and Pendleton. A flood warning is in effect for all those areas.

In Dardenelle, the river was cresting early yesterday at 40 feet, which is 8 feet above flood stage. In North Little Rock, the Big Dam Bridge was closed along with portions of the River Trail because of flooding from the Arkansas river.

In east Arkansas, flood warning are in effect along the Mississippi River. The river is expected to crest next week at Osceola and Helena-West Helena and moderate flooding is expected. In Pine Bluff, residents living at Island Harbor and other areas along the Arkansas River were evacuating their homes.

The Arkansas River is forecasters to crest at 46 point 9 feet on Sunday...flood stage is 42 feet. At Camden, the Ouachita River is forecast to crest at 33 point 9 feet on Sunday, flood state is 26 feet.
