12/14/15   $298,000.00 Missing From Wilmot Water Department

According to a report in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, more than $298,000.00 in city funds are unaccounted for in Wilmot. A state
legislative auditor told lawmakers Friday, former Wilmot water clerk Mable Block was custodian of those funds.

According to Jimmy Locke, a senior auditor for Arkansas Legislative Audit, Block was terminated May 29.  The reason for her termination wasn't given. Locke said  the audit has been referred to 10th Judicial Circuit Prosecuting attorney Thomas Deen.  Deen turned the audit over to the Arkansas State Police D-I-D and has not had a report back.

Wilmot Mayor Carolyn Harris discovered the water department hadn't been audited since 2011 and contacted a C-P-A and asked for an audit for 2012 through 2014.  After the 2012 audit revealed unaccounted for funds, Harris contacted the prosecutor's office who in turn asked for assistance from Arkansas Legislative Audit. State auditors discovered that receipts recorded in the Water Department's computer system exceeded bank deposits by more than $225,000.00 and more than $224,000.00 of that was cash receipts never deposited.
