11/10/15  Bearden City Council Appoints Ginger Bailey To City Recorder-Treasurer

 

The Bearden City Council met for their regular meeting last night and appointed Ginger Bailey to serve out the remaining 1 year and 2 month term that Iva Lou Stoker had remaining on her term of office as city recorder-treasurer before she was appointed Mayor, replacing Russell Davis. The council also appointed Bailey to serve as district court clerk as well.

The Mayor reported to the council that all the loans the city of Bearden has applied for through Natural Resources has been approved, including water tower repair work and sewer repairs.  The old water tower that stands by city hall will be torn down and according to Mayor Stoker, the city will save around $300,000.00 .  It will cost 1.1 million dollars to do the repairs to the existing water tanks.   Mayor Stoker told the council a check for 43 thousand 896 dollars will be paid this week for step one of the sewer project.

The low bid of $20,447.00 was accepted by the city council last night for a new truck for use by the street department.  The low bid was from Performance Chevrolet.

Denise Link reported that a fund raiser, in the  form of a bazaar will be held December 5,  to raise funds for the depot project.  A little over half of the $12,000.00 needed to move the depot into town has been raised.

The council last night passed a fire prevention code ordinance that will govern new construction within the city limits.  Any new construction will have to meet fire code.  Bearden has not had that ordinance until now.  All other buildings will be grandfathered in but will still be inspected.
