11/04/15  Thornton Man Charged with Possessing A Controlled Substance

 

A 21 year old Thornton man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. 

The arrest was made after a Chevrolet pickup driven by Brent David Hopkins of Thornton was searched following a traffic stop in Bearden on October 24, Hopkins was stopped because one of the taillights on his truck were out. 

Officers detected the odor of marijuana and asked Hopkins if he possesse any and he replied “No”.  Hopkins said he did smoke marijuana but not recently.  Ouachita County Deputy Jacob McClane said in his report that a large amount of marijuana “shake” and residue was found in Hopkins truck and when a driver's side door mat was removed a small plastic bag of white powder suspected to be cocaine was found.  A field test was conducted and the substance tested positive for cocaine.  Hopkins was then placed under arrest and transported to the Ouachita County Detention Complex where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
