The Arkansas-Democrat reports University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff  will receive a $500,000.00 grant that school officials say will reshape the math program.

According to spokesman Tisha Arnold, the grant is through the U-S Department of Education under the Minority Science and  Engineering Improvement Program. The program teaches students by using tools they interact with on a daily basis such as social media.

Jessie Walker, chairman of the mathematics and computer science department at UAPB said math literacy is a critical need for the Arkansas Delta, and said the funding will aid his department in its role of helping eager young individuals achieve their goals and aiding them in aspiring to greatness via math and computer science.
