09/30/15  Jerry Wilbon Smith of Fordyce Charged With Aggravated Assault

Aggravated assault charges have been filed in Dallas County Circuit Court against 56 year old Jerry Wilbon Smith of Fordyce.  On August 23, Fordyce police responded to a “shots fired” report.  When police arrived LaKisha Weaver stated she pulled up in the driveway at 306 Russell Street and the resident, Jerry Smith starting yelling and cursing.

Weaver said she apologized to Smith for using his drive to turn around.  She then pulled to the other side of the street waiting for her boyfriend to come out of the house. She said Smith disappeared and then showed up with a gun in his hand.  Weaver's boyfriend came out of the house and they drove away. 

Weaver said she heard a shot as they drove down the street.  There were children in Weaver's car at the time. Smith told investigators that his 357 magnum discharged accidently.  Officer Hubanks, who's a firearm specialist, said there's no way the weapon accidently discharged.
