09/16/15  SAU Tech’s Adult Education Center in Camden Plans to Celebrate National Adult and Family Literacy Week

 

SAU Tech’s Adult Education Center in Camden will celebrate National Adult and Family Literacy Week on September 21st thru the 25th. The Center has several activities planned for the week and several agencies will be on site to help students with applications for colleges, employment assistance, and other services.

 

On September 21, 22, and 24, representatives from TRIO, Arkansas Promise, ESA (Employment Staffing Service), Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, and Southern Arkansas University Tech (SAUT) will speak to our students about the services they offer, eligibility requirements, and how to apply for those services. Guest speakers will speak to students at 10 a each day.

 

A balloon release is scheduled for September 22nd at 9:30 am during a student appreciation event.

 

Below is a brief description of the different agencies expected to be in attendance:

 

September 21st-TRIO (Educational Opportunity Center). The Educational Opportunity Center works to increase the number of low-income, first generation participants who enroll in postsecondary education institutions by providing information assistance. Representatives will be on-site to provide our students with the following services: Educational Information, Assistance with Applications such as college admissions and financial aid, career counseling and referrals.

 

September 22nd-Arkansas Promise is part of a new program sponsored by the U. S. Department of Education and the Social Security Administration (SSA) to help youth (14-16) who are receiving disability benefits and their families improve their educational and employment outcomes. Recruiters with Arkansas Promise will speak with students about the services they offer and ho to enroll. ESA Staffing & Screening will speak with our students regarding employment opportunities in the area.

 

September 24th- Arkansas Rehabilitation. A division of the Department of Career Education, Arkansas Rehabilitation Services (ARS) has been charged with providing opportunities for Arkansans with disabilities to lead productive and independent lives. An Arkansas Rehab counselor will be on-site to speak to students regarding the services they offer such as transition services, services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Alternative Financing Program, the Arkansas Career Training Institute (ACTI) and other services offered by this agency. SAUT’s recruiter will also be available to share information about programs and services the college has to offer.
