09/16/15  Camden Man Charged With Copper Theft

 

A Camden man has been charged with 11 counts of theft of scrap metal.

According to a police report filed in Ouachita County Circuit Court, along with criminal charges filed by Deputy Prosecutor Phillip A. Stone ,on July 11. Brandon Everett, CEO of Everett Construction reported to the Ouachita County Sheriff's office that someone had been stealing large gauge copper wire from his property, which he had acquired from various construction projects. 

An investigation revealed that 21 year old Michael Garcia, a former employee of Everett's sold over 25 hundred pounds of number one copper in 11 separate transactions. to Camden Iron and Metal.  According to records at Camden Iron and metals, Garcia received almost $1,000.00 from the sales. Everett estimated his loss at over $15,000.00. When questioned about where he got the copper by an employee of Camden Iron and Metals, Garcia said from Everett Construction, who gave him permission to sell the metal.
