08/26/15  Two Springdale Residents Charged With Possession In Dallas County

Two Springdale residents have been charged in Circuit Court in Dallas County with possession of a controlled substance.  The charges were filed August 19 by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tom Wynne.  On July 3,  Dallas County Deputy Sheriff Ronnie Smith stopped a vehicle for having an obstructed license plate.  Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Smith reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the open window.

When Smith asked for ID and ran it, he discovered the driver, 33 year old Lamar Chavis  had a suspended license and was a parolee.  Smith asked Chavis if he had any  illegal narcotics in his vehicle and Chavis said he didn't.  While searching the vehicle, Smith found a pill bottle with three small plastic bags containing a cystal-like substance believed to be meth.  Chavis and a passenger in his vehicle, 42 year old Demetria Banks-Cooper were both taken into custody and charged with possession of meth.  Chavis will also be tried under the habitual offenders statute, that allows the judge to levy more jail time.
