08/17/15  Thornton Working On Trash Problems In The City

Thornton is trying to clean up its trash problem.  The Thornton city council met for their regular meeting last week to discuss the issue.  Mayor Libby Coates said on a recent South Arkansas Today broadcast..syringes being thrown in the trash are a real problem.  She said throwing away syringes could possibly have some legal consequences.

According to councilman Paul Coates, the council tabled the issue of trash containers.  Thornton has an ordinance requiring trash containers with lids that close tightly..but there's no penalty clause for residents that ignore the ordinance.  The council voted to table the ordinance until next month's meeting while they investigate the cost of the garbage containers needed.

Anyone with questions or comments about the problem can call the mayor's office at Thornton City Hall.
