07/17/15  Drew County Jail Bird Back In Cage

Thirty-four-year-old Brandon Cox, a state prisoner being housed at the Drew County Jail, who walked away from the jail last Wednesday, is back behind bars today.  Cox was taken back into custody Thursday night around 7pm just outside Bearden by officers from several law enforcement agencies, including a chase team from the Department of Corrections.

In an interview Friday, Dallas County Sheriff Stan McGhee said his office received a tip Thursday morning that Cox was at an address north of Thornton on the Dallas-Calhoun County line.  Three officers responded to the scene and Cox ran into the woods and led officers on a six hour chase in 90 degree heat  and thick undergrowth. We asked McGhee how Cox got from Monticello to Thornton.

We asked the Sheriff what Cox was in prison for,

Friday morning Dallas County officers were called back to the neighborhood from where Cox fled...

McGhee said he does not know where the tip came from that led officers to Cox.  Cox will face additional charges and more jail time as the result of his fleeing.
