07/16/15  FEMA Tries To Answer Storm Victims Questions

Officials from FEMA and Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, in a news release, are trying to answer questions storm damage victims are asking about receiving state grants.

According to the officials, Arkansas residents rebuilding from the severe storms of late spring will not lose Social Security benefits, not have to pay additional taxes, or give up income-based benefit programs if they accept federal or state disaster aid. According to recovery officials from FEMA and A-D-E-M, in most cases, the Social Security Administration does not count federal or state disaster aid as income. Residents of nine counties including Jefferson County affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding during the period of May 7 to June 15 may be eligible for disaster  assistance.

Residents are encouraged to register for assistance with FEMA. Individuals and business owners who sustained losses can apply for assistance by registering on line at www dot DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA.
