06/29/15   CADC SEEKING TAX PREPARATION SERVICE IN DALLAS COUNTY

Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) is seeking residents in Dallas County to become certified tax professionals.

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is offered in Dallas County at the Dallas County library, 501 East 4th Street in Fordyce. In 2015, the site assisted approximately 48 customers with the free tax service, returning more than $58,000 in federal refund dollars to customers at no cost. The program can do more, but is dependent upon volunteers who provide the service. Volunteer tax preparers, quality reviewers, screeners, intake and phone appointment schedulers are all positions that are available. Volunteers contributed more than 3,000 hours of service to the program in 2015

CADC’s VITA program provides free tax return preparation for low to moderate income taxpayers, typically persons who make around $50,000 or less. If you are looking for a way to help in your community, then consider becoming a tax volunteer. People helping people - it's that simple.

CADC schedules tax program orientation sessions periodically for new and potential volunteers in the program. For more information about volunteering in Dallas County, contact Jean Sorrells at 870-867-0151 or contact CADC at 501-778-1133.

Volunteers receive free specialized training and certification. No previous experience is required. CADC provides tax law training materials needed to prepare basic federal and state income tax returns.

Hours for service are flexible. Volunteers are encouraged to work at least 4 hours per week during tax season. CADC's VITA Volunteers are a part of established program that has helped persons in Central and South Arkansas file tax returns at no charge for several years. In 2015, CADC tax volunteers helped more than3100 customers in 12 counties, returning more than $3 million in federal refund dollars and more than $1 million in earned income tax credit to taxpayers at no cost.

CADC is a nonprofit community action agency that was formed in 1965 to fight and win the “War on Poverty.” The mission of CADC is to improve the quality of life and build strong communities in Arkansas. For more information on becoming a tax volunteer, contact Jean Sorrells at 870-867-0151.
